A skilled frame designer uses the elements of art to create a design that enhances the work it displays. Choosing framing components such as custom mats, decorative lines, fillets and frames with the elements of color, space, line, texture, and shape in mind, the designer is able to create a synergistic framework that supports the art while not overpowering it. The frame creates a boundary between the wall and the art, drawing the focus to the art itself. Of course, a good designer knows when to break the rules, too!

Preserving and protecting the art

A beautiful design is just the beginning. While not every piece of art requires full preservation/ conservation framing, if it is important enough to frame and display, it should have a minimum level of protection. All artwork will degrade over time. Our job, as caretakers, is to slow the process using the latest preservation techniques and appropriate materials, such as acid-free and lignen-free matboards and UV-blocking glazing. Environmental factors such as sunlight, moisture, humidity, temperature, airborne pollutants, dust, and insects all accelerate deterioration and reduce the lifespan of the art. Our designers will help you choose the best material for your framing project. It is our passion to help preserve the past and present for the future!
